The manner of presentation triggered some curiosity to clarify the claim.

First, is the fact that the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, is a Federal government agency saddled with the responsibility of managing the country’s identity database and assigning a National Identification Number, NIN to every citizen.

Being a corporate and reputable Federal government agency it would not have presented a public information with grammatical blunders as seen in the information “the Federal government HAVE” rather than has….,  to open up ‘THEIR’ correction portal, rather than ‘ITS’….

Secondly, what the complaint was centered on was not spelt out.It just says “Due to high level of complain”. of which  the use of ‘complain’ is also a grammatical blunder. It should be complaint. So, complain on what?

A further investigation revealed that the same information was also made public last year to lure unsuspecting Nigerians.

For clarification, it was discovered that the National Identity Management Commission on its X handle dissociated itself from the information stamping is as FAKE  NEWS!

In a press release signed by the NIMC Head of Corporate Affairs, Kayode Adegoke, the agency made it clear it had authorised law enforcement agencies to crack down on and apprehend individuals involved in online phishing schemes targeting citizens data from other sources.

This statement from NIMC invalidates the claim and makes it identifiable as phishing.

Phishing is an online fraudulent technique that uses trusted institutional names to elicit confidential information or send forged email addresses that direct recipients to a replica of an existing webpage, both of which pretend to be legitimate companies.

The aim of the fraudulent sender is to entice people to share their personal financial password, data, or any confidential information to defraud them.
