A recent post asking people to apply for the ₦70,000 FG Grant by CBN surfaced on the Facebook platform.
The Post by an unknown author, but with a name,’Travel Opportunities’, read: “Apply Now for ₦70,000 FG Grant by CBN – Hurry and Ensure You Don’t Miss This Incredible Offer Before It Ends Soon”!
The virality of the post and the high inflation rate in Nigeria that has triggered hardship, it became necessary to do a fact-check.
We followed the link by clicking the apply button. One would have expected to find a landing page where information regarding the acclaimed grant is, but what appeared was USA job grant VISA sponsorship opportunities.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that neither the Federal government official website nor that of CBN claimed to be offering such a grant, had this announcement.
This revealed that the main goal of the initiator of this advert was to use the FG grant application as a bait to lure unsuspecting Nigerians due to the economic challenges many are grappling with.
The aim of the post is to draw traffic to the malicious website containing the USA Grant Visa Sponsorship.
At the moment, neither the Central Bank of Nigeria nor the government is offering a ₦70,000 grant at the moment.
Nigerians are advised to be wary of such malicious claims published to draw traffic to website and always verify claims from credible sources such as haltfake.org website.
