As part of the events to mark Nigeria’s 25 years of unbroken democracy and the one year anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the Federal Government on May 29 officially reverted to the old National Anthem, ‘Nigeria we hail thee.
This National Anthem was first adopted at independence in 1960, but it was replaced with ‘Arise, O Compatriots,’ 1978.
Verification
Haltfake.org embarked on a search to ascertain where the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, made such a claim.
There were no digital footprints from the government or other media to back the claim.
We also checked the Atiku Bagudu Facebook page to verify this claim which was attributed to him, but nothing relating to it was found there.
Conclusion
President Bola Tinubu assented to the National Anthem Bill 2024 reverting to the old national anthem, “Nigeria, we hail thee”, on May 29, 2024, while the National Assembly has passed the bill to law.
Following haltfake.org check, it was concluded that the claim is false and intended to mislead the public.
