Claim
A post shared on X by Sahara Reporters (@SaharaReporters) at 8:09 a.m. on Friday claimed that the Tinubu administration said Nigeria needed $150 billion to fund vaccine procurement for 2026.
The post read:
“Tinubu Government Says Nigeria Needs $150billion To Fund Vaccine Procurement For 2026.”

Verification
Findings from multiple credible Nigerian news outlets show that the federal government actually gave a figure of ₦150 billion, not $150 billion (Naira not dollar), as the required amount for vaccine procurement for 2025–2026.
The Independent Newspaper reported that Nigeria sought ₦150 billion to fund vaccine procurement.
ThisDayLive also quoted the Coordinating Minister of Finance and National Economy, Wale Edun, saying the government is mobilising “close to ₦150 billion” for vaccine acquisition.
Daily Report and AllAfrica (Premium Times) likewise reported the figure as ₦150 billion.
During the 2025 Joint Annual Review (JAR) in Abuja (12–14 November), Wale Edun confirmed that the government was working to mobilise “maybe around almost ₦150 billion” for vaccine procurement.
There is no evidence that any government official mentioned $150 billion. The dollar figure appears to be a misquote or a wrong currency conversion.
A review of the Sahara Reporters X page shows that the post is no longer visible, suggesting it may have been deleted.
Conclusion
The claim that the Tinubu government said Nigeria needed $150 billion for 2026 vaccine procurement is False and Misleading.
The correct figure, as publicly stated by government officials, is ₦150 billion, not $150 billion.
