On Sunday, July 21, controversial Instagram blogger, Gistlover caused an uproar on social media after sharing a post accusing the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, of engaging in extra-marital affairs.
This post went viral in no time, leaving Akpabio as a topic of discussion for days.
In the post, the blogger claimed that the Senate President has numerous ‘side chicks’, many of which are celebrities.
The blogger alleged that actress Ini Edo, Hilda Bassey, actress Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Nancy Isime are some of the female celebrities having an affair with the senate president.
Also, in the post, the blogger accused Akpabio of money laundering.
Part of the post reads: “This is one of the reasons why Akpabio has the audacity to talk down on a woman, when he say him don sample almost all una faves, infact this list is like half of what he has done, some of his mistress got married, some are even married when he was knacking them, Akpabio has a doctor where he refers all these girls to for test before tarring any affair with them, some of your fave who are HIV positive didn’t meet up his criteria because he does flesh to flesh with everyone of them, I will start by mentioning them one by one and all he did for them, some of una faves wey Don knack almost all the politician them go come go find one small boy or divorcee to do wife when them don your everywhere, I say cane go meet all of una, na Akpabio rudeness want open all una yansh come out like this, and it won’t stop here, other politicians will have their own fair share too. Let’s start with shontel.
Shontel: Shontel is one of Akpabio side chic who he funds heavily and she helps him launder money too, when shontel was pimped to Akpabio, she begged Akpabio to please secure a government job for her, Akpabio used his influence to get her into Firs as a ghost worker, she doesn’t go to work but she gets paid, as if that is not enough, she and Akpabio connive to open a fake foundation just so she can use it to launder money for Akpabio, she named the foundation goodwills foundation, Apkabio other name is goodwills, if you check her page you will see Godswill foundation on her bio, they didn’t do anything tangible with them.”

This highly controversial post was accompanied by photos of the alleged side chicks Akpabio has.
The virality of this post and the potential damage it may have on Akpabio’s reputation is what prompted this fact check.
This information, if not properly checked, can have a great effect on Akpabio’s marriage.
Verification
This claim caught our team’s attention due to the prominence of the office of the senate president and the public personality involved.
Before delving into the verification process, we carefully examined the controversial post.
We discovered that the blogger who made the claim did not provide any evidence—no pictures, videos, or even leaked audio conversations to support the assertion. Furthermore, the blogger failed to cite any credible sources or references to substantiate the claim. Additionally, no reputable publications reported this news.
Meanwhile, in a separate post on Instagram, the blogger went ahead to share mobile phone numbers allegedly belonging to Akpabio, his wife, and his two side chicks.
The blogger gave Akpabio’s number as; +234 909 000 1829.
Akpabio’s wife; +234 703 000 0414, side chick 1; 09136738938, side chick 2; 09159187014.

In the course of this fact check, we dialed all the highlighted numbers.
We called these numbers for days, but all of the phone numbers were switched off, except for that of the side chick 2. The number connected, but no one answered the phone.
Now, let’s try to confirm who these phone numbers truly belong to.
Here, we will use the Truecaller App for this verification.
We found that the phone number; +234 909 000 1829, is registered in the name; Godswill Akpabio, the number is located in Nigeria, and is linked to the email; akpabiogodswill48@gmail.com.

Also, we found that the number; +234 703 000 0414, is registered to the name Unoma Akpabio, which happens to be the name of the Senate President’s wife. The number is located in Nigeria.

Is it a coincidence that the two numbers have ‘[Akpabio]’ with it?
One cannot help but ask, did Akpabio register the numbers for these side chicks?
Or, is this an orchestrated move targeted at the Senate President?
Furthermore, Senate President Godswill Akpabio had denied these allegations.
As reported by Vanguard, the senate president said that he has only one wife and he is satisfied with her.
Vanguard quoted Akpabio as saying: “I don’t want to say what they did to me, because I don’t merit what they did to me.
“In my tradition, we marry only one wife. They listed so many wives on social media.
“At the end, it will look as if the Senate president has so many wives, but I’m reporting to my colleagues that I have only one (wife), and I’m satisfied with that one.”

On the other hand, while some of the accused celebrities have yet to react to the allegation, others have denied having any romantic relationship with Akpabio.
Actress Dakore countered the claim via a video on her Instagram page.
She promised to give 5 million naira to anyone who can provide any evidence or proof to back this allegation.
It might interest you to know that up until this very moment, no one has been able to claim the 5 million naira reward.
Wondering why? no evidence.
The mother of two said: “I saw text messages and calls this morning, alerting me to a very wicked lie from the pit of hell.
“I must say that I’m very disappointed, shocked and appalled. And I want to categorically state that I have never ever met the Senate president in my life.
“I have not had any cause to be in the same room with him, not to talk of being his side chick. I’m happily married with two beautiful children.
“So for a jobless, wicked blogger to decide to put my name amongst women who have been with this man is totally wicked and unfounded.
“It is a lie and I am ready for any legal action because, at this point, you have messed with the wrong person.
“I keep to myself, mind my business, I drink water and I do my work. So for someone to want to tarnish my hard-earned name and image for some clicks, no way.
“I want to put it out there. Anyone who can provide video or audio evidence that I have been with this man, I would give you 5 million naira right now”.
This was published on many reputable platforms including, The Punch, Daily Post, Leadership News, ThisDayLive, etc.
According to Punch, Dakore’s lawyer, Olisa Agbakoba Legal, had warned the blog to delete the libellous allegation against her.
Also, popular hair vendor, Nwanneka Nkumah, who was also listed as Akpabio’s side chick reacted to the allegation.
According to New Telegraph, Nwanneka denied the claim in a lengthy post via her Instagram page.
She wrote in part: “Woke up this morning to my picture on a flyer. First off, I’m still trying to make sense of why my picture is in this mix, could it be a mistake from the graphic designer or what?
“I’d like to assume this was a complete mistake and was never intended. Gistlover please go back and do this research well or just reconfirm from who your source is as I believe there might be a mistake somewhere.
This was published in various reputable platforms including, New Telegrah, OsunDefender.
Conclusion
After thorough digging, we could not find any tangible evidence or proof in the public domain tying Akpabio to any of the celebrities as alleged by Gistlover.
Also, the blogger did not establish any evidence or proof to back his claim.
It is therefore clear that this post was shared to spark controversy and gather traffic.
