FactCheck: Did Fubara Relocate To Bayelsa?

On Friday, March 21, 2025, reports claiming that Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, and his family, have relocated to the Bayelsa State Government House following a declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State emerged on social media.

This claim was published on Facebook by Progressive Nigerian Politics, a user with 100K followers, and in no time, it spread like wildlife, springing up on numerous pages and blogs.

The post reads: “Just In: Former governor Siminalayi Fubara and his family relocates to the Bayelsa State Government House, and are currently being accommodated by the state governor.

Is Sim Fubara running away from Rivers to evade accountability?”

As of the time of this check, the post has gathered 156 likes, 87 comments, and 16 shares.

Other users who published this information include: Gistlover, Political Affairs Int, Riversstatenews, etc.

But hey, where is Fubara really?

Let’s do a little digging.

Verification

Let’s begin our verification process from Google.

We combined the keyword; Fubara Relocate Bayelsa.

Our check showed that besides social media blogs, no reputable news firm published such a report.

We also combined the same keyword; Fubara Relocate Bayelsa, for a search on YouTube.

We found no video evidence to back the report.

As of the time of this check, there has been no official confirmation or denial from the Bayelsa State Government regarding Governor Fubara’s alleged relocation to the Bayelsa State Government House.

Similarly, the Rivers State Government has not issued any statements addressing the whereabouts of the suspended governor.

We searched Facebook to see if the governor had published any statement regarding the said relocation. Sadly, we couldn’t find any Facebook page associated with the governor. All we found were a series of fake accounts, hence, no official statement was spotted anywhere.

Additionally, those spreading this information did not quote any reliable source in their reports.

Conclusion

Given the lack of official confirmation and the reliance on unverified reports, the claim that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has relocated to the Bayelsa State Government House could be dismissed as false.

Furthermore, during our check, we found reports of Fubara attending a Sunday Service on March 23.

This report was published by Daily Post Nigeria and many other reputable outlets.

Daily Post reports that the Governor attended the Sunday service at Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, further burying claims of his relocation to Bayelsa.

We checked Facebook to verify this latest report, and we found videos showing the governor attending the service as reported.

After this rigorous check, we can boldly affirm that reports claiming that Fubara and his family relocated to the Bayelsa State Government House are false.

These reports are shared by blogs seeking engagements and impressions.
