Verification
We began our verification with Google to find out if any credible media outlets published this claim.
We searched using the keywords; Fubara Joins NDC.
We found out that this claim was only published by one unverified blog here, and not by any reputable or well known media organisations.

However, we found something very interesting.
We found that one Blessing Fubara, a relative of the Rivers State Governor Fubara, had on the same day defected from APC to the NDC.
See report here, here, and here.
Perhaps, this was where the misinformation all began, trust Nigerian bloggers, they can twist anything for clicks and engagement.
But let’s dig deeper.
We decided to visit the Facebook and X handles of Governor Sim Fubara and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to see if an official statement was published as regards the reported defection of the Governor.

On the Governor’s Facebook page, we scrolled down to April 1, there was no post of such defection.
Similarly, on X, there was no post of such.

We also visited the X and Facebook handles of the APC and found nothing connected to the reports.

“What if there is a video that captured the moment of the defection?”
So we thought. Hence, we visited YouTube. We combined the same search query we used for Google.
We found various video reports of the same claim but no authentic video or pictures or even statements from the Governor’s camp.

Conclusion
It is true that Blessing Fubara, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had defected from the party.
However, the contradicting claim that it was the Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara that defected is false.
This information was not only shared to spark confusion, but also to gain engagement.
