Suspected fake Accord Party and INEC officials were reportedly caught by residents and party supporters in Odeomu, Ayedaade Local Government Area, during the midnight hours of Friday, August 14, 2026, on the eve of the Osun State Governorship Election.
Why We Checked
Video footage circulating on platforms like Facebook and X handle captured locals interrogating a man identified as an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff. The claim says it happened on the eve of the governorship election in the state.
Also the video on X has garnered over 7,000 views with 13 retweets. This video if not verified could undermine the process, labelling the umpire in the election bad.
This is because during a live interrogation by locals, the suspect confessed that his superior officer, an Electoral Officer named Mrs. Aderinoye, ordered him to go to St. Peter’s in Ayedaade and tear the result documents.
Verification
First, we found that the video features real footage and not in any way manipulated.
We equally found out that Official confirmation clarifying the identity of the suspects arrested at Odeomu has not yet been established by independent investigators or the electoral commission.
Local reports label them as impersonators working for a faction of the Accord Party, but conflicting details continue to emerge across political circles.
Checking the video critically, we discovered that the alleged INEC staff was not evidently identified with an ID, showing he was an official of the electoral body.
Also, there was no single election result sheet in the claimed video clip circulating on social media. Rather, the nylon he unpacked contained some reflections jackets which could be in possession of anyone.
Also No exclusive official press statement addressing the alleged Odeomu incident has been issued by the Osun State Police Command.
Verdict – Unproven And Misleading
The video is real and it surfaced on the internet for the first time on August 15, 2026, starting at approximately 7:00 AM WAT, hours after the alleged midnight incident occurred.
Also, there is no evidence that the individual is an official of the electoral body, and the claim that he had result sheets and other voting materials was not evident in the items poured out of the nylon bag.
The arrest has not also been confirmed by the police or any authorised security agency involved in the process.
The video is unproven and also misleading.
