A photo showing the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in 2023 election, Peter Gregory Obi, kneeling beside President Bola Tinubu was posted on Facebook by an account “Satire TV”, with the caption “Guess what Peter Obi said to Tinubu here? Be nice in your guess”, was posted on May 10, 2024, at 02:42 p.m.
The post claims the photo was taken with the two politicians having a discussion.
An earlier post with the same picture was posted on the X (formerly Twitter) handle of a politician, Garba Adamu on May 9, 2023 with a caption “Tinubu’s posture: “No food for a lazy man like you Peter Obi, stop sleeping everywhere including at courts and airports, hero beer have overtaken your wakefulness, go for deliverance”.
Verification
After careful examination, the photo was found to have been manipulated, as the original picture was earlier posted by a Twitter account, @PO_GrassRootM on May 6, 2023 with a caption “Our President-Elect H.E Peter Obi attended the Funeral service of Late Pa Abraham Diri, Father of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri with other important personalities”.
If you take a good look at this picture above, you will find that one of the persons sitting behind the former Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo ahs an identification hanging on him. Follow the red arrow.
Also, a careful look at a displayed Identity Card confirms the presence of a security detail of the presidential villa, presumably attached to the forrmer Vice President.
This is important to note as Bola Tinubu was yet to be sworn in as President of Nigeria, and was yet to officially occupy the presidential villa and as such, his security detail would not bare such identity card reading “Presidential Villa”.
Conclusion
The claim accompanying the picture having Tinubu and Obi in it is false and misleading.
