On July 26, 2024, a verified Facebook account NNPC Limited, presumably the official account of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited made a post “WE ARE HIRING! Are you passionate about building an exciting career in NNPC Limited? Please visit https://careers.nnpcgroup.com to apply”.
How genuine is this account and the content?

The following steps were taken to authenticate the claim.
Step 1. The link provided on the Facebook post was clicked on.
Step 2. On clicking the link, this page appeared saying the “website is not using a secure connection”. Two options were provided: “Go back” and “Continue to website”. The second link led to another page at the third stage.
Step 3. After clicking on “Continue to website”, a blue page appeared saying “Page not found”.
At this, one of these two options should be right;
- That the content was not genuine, or
- There was a technical challenge with the website
On returning to the page some hours later, two new posts were made; the first saying in part, “Due to unprecedented traffic to the NNPC Ltd. career page from applicants applying for vacancies, the site is currently experiencing slow load times. Our technicians are working diligently to rectify the problem as quickly as possible.”
The other read “Our team is working assiduously to accommodate the surge of applications.”
Which implied the prediction earlier made of the possibility of a technical issue.
The following day, the application link was restored, leading applicants to an online application form and the advert was across various verified platforms of the NNPC Limited.
After these processes, it was VERIFIED that the advert was genuine, the Facebook account as well was genuine.
