Claim: A viral Facebook post featuring a before-and-after image comparison claimed that Governor Chukwuma Soludo transformed a refuse dump at Ochanja Roundabout in Onitsha into a clean water fountain.

Full Text

As Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration in Anambra State nears its third year, several social media posts have circulated, claiming significant transformations of public infrastructure.

One such post appeared on the Facebook page Anambra News on March 5, 2026. It featured a collage of two images: the top image, labelled “OCHANJA BEFORE SOLUDO,” shows a busy market area overwhelmed by a large pile of bagged refuse. The bottom image labelled “NOW,” depicts a clean paved road, a three-storey commercial building, and a functioning water fountain at the roundabout.

The post’s caption reads: “Ochanja Before And After Soludo Took Power… Soludo Proving To Be The Best Gov Anambra State Has Ever Had.” By March 10, 2026, it had amassed over 1,800 reactions, 739 comments, and 46 shares.

Reactions were mixed. Some users praised the governor, while others questioned the authenticity of the images. One Facebook user, Michael Okoye, commented, “Before Picture is Lagos State, while the after is Ochanja. What a combo to prove nothing.” Another, Emmy Chucks, wrote, “Assuming your photos are genuine, let us see that of the main market before he took over and today.”

The claim can also be found here and here.

Given the controversy around the post, we conducted this fact-check to determine the accuracy of the images and their location.

Verification

A reverse image search and a geographical comparison of landmarks in both images confirmed that the “before” picture accurately depicts the Ochanja Roundabout in Onitsha, Anambra State, showing its state before Soludo’s administration.

A review of a YouTube video recording of the site revealed a building matching the one in the “after” photo, confirming the location. An Instagram video also confirms the authenticity of the claim.

We found out that Governor Soludo had, in 2022, monitored the waste crisis at Ochanga market after assuming office as Anambra State Governor

Further keyword searches revealed that the Ochanja Roundabout was officially reconstructed and commissioned on March 21, 2024, including a water fountain and several kilometres of upgraded roads.

While some social media users claimed the “after” image might be from a different city, our verification confirms that the fountain is indeed located at Ochanja Roundabout, Onitsha.

Conclusion

The claim that Governor Soludo transformed Ochanja Roundabout from a refuse dump into a modern site with a water fountain is TRUE. The images accurately represent the location before and after the urban renewal project undertaken by the Soludo administration.
