Claim: A Facebook post claims that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 presidential election, there have continuously been different political events that might potentially influence the outcome of the elections, especially the race for the president.
In recent development, there have been massive defections of some political figures to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and formation of a coalition party – African Democratic Congress (ADC). The defection of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 presidential election to the ADC have sparked different reactions among Nigerians.
Also, these political developments towards the 2027 general elections have led to several dis/misinformation claims, especially on social media platforms.
One of such claims was made by a Facebook Page, Igbo History, on January 12, 2026.
The handle claimed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had declared his support for Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The caption of the post reads: “I Am With Peter Obi Till The End” — Former President, Obasanjo Declares Ahead Of 2027.”

The image attached to the claim showed former President Obasanjo standing with the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and several other people.
The post, within a day, attracted 326 reactions, 51 comments and 8 shares.
Given the prominence of the political actors involved in the claim and its implications for Nigerian political discourse, we conducted this fact-check.
Verification
We conducted a keyword search on Google. The result revealed that no reputable Nigerian national dailies or international news platforms reported such a declaration from the former president.
We found that the claim only appeared on social media platforms, which can be found here, here and here.
In addition, a check on social media accounts of both Peter Obi revealed no such recent endorsement.
While Obasanjo officially endorsed Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 presidential election, we found no evidence that he recently declared support for him ahead of the 2027 elections at the time of this report.
We conducted a reverse image search of the photo attached to the claim. The image was traced to recent social media posts.
Analysis of the image on Hive Moderation, an AI image detector, flagged the image as 99.8% AI-generated.
