Claim

A Facebook user, Omoyele Sowore, has posted an image claiming that the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, said: “In health, I said 4years before, but in 2years, we will have a functional primary health care in every ward in Nigeria “- Peter Obi, NDC Presidential candidate.

Why we fact-checked

The post has drawn reactions from social media users and has garnered 9.4k Likes, 21.4k comments, and 440 shares.

We checked whether the statement truly came from the NDC Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.

Verification

We began by taking out a screenshot of the post and used the Google reversed image to know if it was an old picture or if the visual existed before now.

We found that it had been previously used three days earlier on Igbo History on Facebook, and it was shared here.

Also, we checked the social media handles of the presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, here, and here, but found no such statement.

Also, we uploaded the image to an AI verification tool, hivedetect.ai, and it returned 93.2% AI-generated image.

Verdict

From our findings, the image circulating on the internet with the claim that the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, said, “In health, I said 4years before, but in 2years, we will have a functional primary health care in every ward in Nigeria can not be substantiated.

Therefore, the claim is unproven and misleading.
