Claim: A Facebook post claims that a former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, is sharing customised campaign bread ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Full Text

On 21 October 2026, Ossai Ovie Success, who is a media aide to the Delta State Government, shared a post via his verified Facebook page, claiming that Peter Obi had engaged in the distribution of campaign bread to solicit votes ahead of the 2027 race.

The post reads: “Peter Obi now sharing bread ahead of the 2027 elections. Same campaign bread that he has always kicked against. While doing something you have consistently kicked against. I am disappointed”.

Attached to the post is an image showing several loaves of unsliced bread in a wheelbarrow. Each loaf bears a sticker with Peter Obi’s picture, a peace-sign emblem and text reading “NDC Service to the People–PETER OBI FOR PRESIDENT.”

As of 29 October 2026, the post generated significant engagement with over 2,300 reactions, 2,700 comments and 95 shares.

We conducted this fact-check due to the prominence of the political figure involved and the sensitivity of election-related claims.

Verification

We conducted a keyword search on Google, using Peter Obi+sharing campaign bread+2027 election. The result yielded no credible reports, videos or public statements confirming that Peter Obi or any of his authorised campaign team distributed branded bread in any part of Nigeria.

Checks on Obi’s official X and Facebook accounts show no press release, image or video establishing that Obi shared bread ahead of the 2027 elections.

Indications of abnormal labels

Close examination of the image attached to the claim shows some anomalies. We noticed that some labels on the bread underneath are unreadable and do not correlate with the ones above, a common indication in digitally altered images.

We further analysed the image using AI image detection tools, such as Deepai,  Sightengine and Hive Moderation. The results flagged the image as AI-generated content with 93% and 99.9% rates.

Conclusion

The claim that Peter Obi is sharing campaign bread ahead of the 2027 presidential election is false. The image was digitally manipulated and there is no evidence that Obi or his campaign distributed the branded loaves.
