Verification

Available information gathered from Isan Ekiti in Oye local government says a young boy was allegedly shot dead by a police officer following a dispute over the wearing of an Army Uniform by a boy at a football match.

It was also gathered that a policeman was allegedly beaten up at the venue of the match due to a misunderstanding, prompting the mobilisation of more officers to the scene.

This reportedly led to the burning of the police station in the community.

However, no official statement has been issued by the police on the matter, but available information did not ascribe the crisis to the Ekiti Gubernatorial election or intimidation of voters to the killing of the young boy.

Verdict

From available information, the claim that the situation in Isan Ekiti was politically motivated is false, as it has nothing to do with the Gubernatorial election ongoing in Ekiti state.

It is an offshoot of a disagreement between residents and  the police.

Our earlier Fact-check has more information on the issue.
