“National Youth Empowerment Fund Application Form for 2025,”3( is a post being forwarded on Whatsapp, a popular social media platform.
It comes with a link where intending applicants are to apply as seen in the post
But then comes the question,” Can this really be true”?
A thorough look at the contents raised some questions which stirred curiousity as to the authenticity of the post.
First, is the fact that Youth empowerment schemes in Nigeria, such as the N-Power programme, typically target individuals between the ages of 18 and 35.This age range is considered “youth” in Nigeria.
In contrast, a 60-year-old would be considered a senior citizen, not a youth. Therefore, if it is a youth empowerment scheme, what is the age category of 65year old doing there?
Secondly, are the grammatical and factual blunders; “The _PAYMENTS_ *HAS* just BEGAN for *ALL* APPLICANTS”!
Yet, there’s still eligibility tests, which is an indication, it is not for all applicants.
Thirdly, it is contradictory to claim that a scheme that has just been opened for applications has already commenced payment as indicated in the post.
Then several attempts to open the link only shows “This site can’t be opened”.
For further clarification, a visit was made to the official social media handle of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, where updates on the Ministry’s activities are often posted.
However, no information was found on the specific scheme in question, except for the recently launched “Youth Farmers Enrollment Portal” aimed at addressing unemployment and food security.¹
The discrepancies between the presented logo and the authentic logo equally raise some concerns about the legitimacy of the information being shared.
Typically, information released from a reputable source like the Federal Government would undergo rigorous scrutiny to ensure accuracy and consistency.
It is unusual for such a release to be marred by errors and discrepancies, as seen in this case.
With these findings, it became obvious that the post was a fabrication devised by unscrupulous individuals who exploit reputable names and organisations to attract attention, generate traffic, and perpetuate fraudulent activities.
