On Sunday, March 2, 2025, reports claiming that Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has apologised to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan surfaced on social media, sparking widespread confusion among Nigerians.

The post was first shared on Facebook by Michika Pikin, a user with 63K followers.

Captioned; ‘BREAKING – Akpabio Begs Senator Natasha’, the post read: “Senate President apologizes to Senator Natasha as she regains her seat in the esteemed red chambers.

“I don’t know how Senator Irenti Kingibe is feeling right now, following her recent remark on the fracas that happened between Akpabio and Natasha.”

The user attached a video of Akpabio apologising to Senator Natasha.

In the video, the Senate President said: “Distinguished Senator Natasaha, I want to apologise to you. I will not intentionally denigrate any woman, and I always pray that God will uplift women.

“The interest shown in the social media shows that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm. People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward.

“Social media handlers should practice with decorum. We won’t, out of anger, regulate social media”.

The viral nature of this post is what prompted this fact-check you are about to read.

You see, the latest clash between Akpabio and Natasha started some days ago over the seating arrangement at the Senate Chamber.

However, things escalated on Friday, February 28, when Natasha, during an interview on Arise TV, accused the Senate President of making sexual advances at her.

Natasha alleged that it was her refusal to yield to the sexual advances from Akpabio that led to the hatred and antagonism against her.

Now, back to our factcheck, did Akpabio apologise to Natasha over the recent incident?

The simple answer is no.

The video trending as Akpabio’s apology is an old video.

The video was shared by Channels Television seven months ago.

True, Akpabio had apologised to Natasha, but that was long ago, and it was for a different reason.

At the time, during a Thursday plenary, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan commented on a motion without the permission of the Senate President, an action which contravened the Senate standing order.

While trying to correct the Kogi lawmaker for the misconduct, Akpabio told her to follow the rules and that the Senate was not a nightclub where anybody can talk anyhow.

Akpabio came under fire from many Nigerians on the social media space, with many faulting his utterance.

However, during the next session, the Senate President apologised to Natasha over his night club comment.

This report was shared by Channels Television, Punch, Businessday, The Nation Newspaper, etc.
