Fact Check: Federal Government Not Disbursing ₦30,000 Bursary To Secondary School Students

A claim circulating on WhatsApp directs users to a website purportedly linked to a Federal Government bursary scheme,

It claims that students in secondary schools are entitled to receive ₦30,000.

The message instructs students to click a button that says Bank form and fill in their bank details in order to access the funds.

The post has continued to gain momentum online, drawing attention from online audiences. As a result, we decided to fact-check the claim.

Verification

Checks on the website revealed several red flags:

Grammatical Error: The page displays the phrase “no BVN require”, an obvious grammatical error that is highly unlikely to be found on any official government platform.

Suspicious Link: The website address provided is students-busary.apply-today.online. Official government websites in Nigeria typically end with .gov.ng. This deviation strongly suggests the site is not legitimate.

Design for Data Harvesting: The platform requests sensitive information such as bank details, indicating it is designed to steal personal and financial data from unsuspecting students.

Conclusion

The claim that the Federal Government is disbursing ₦30,000 bursary to secondary school students through the website is false.

The site is a scam created to harvest the personal details of students.
