Fact-Check: Did Four Anambra Lawmakers Defect To APC 

A social media post on Facebook claimed that four Anambra lawmakers defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The post was made by Eneh Chigozie Victor on September 23, 2025.

Reacting to the post, Harrison A. Nwegwu claimed that the allegiance of these four lawmakers was bought with ₦50 million by the APC gubernatorial candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.

 

Legit.ng, an online news platform, later published the same story on October 6, 2025.

Verification:

 

Reports making the rounds on social media claim that four strong state lawmakers in the Anambra House of Assembly defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) 

 

To verify this claim, we searched the internet and reviewed reports from reputable media organisations and other sources.

 

Our findings revealed that the four lawmakers who were said to have defected had their personal reasons for abandoning the party that brought them to office for another party. This was found in a statement dated September 27, 2025, “Why we chose Nicholas Ukachukwu over Soludo”

Hon. Augustine Onyekachukwu Ikediorji dared Prof Charles Soludo and his media aide to provide proof of any monetary payment for their defection to the APC.

 

Furthermore, the lawmaker went ahead to clear the air on the allegation that they were paid to defect to the APC. 

 

Also, a publication on the pages of Anambra Daily.

The defecting lawmakers could be said to have weighed their options of getting re-elected under the umbrella of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) party, and thus jumped ship.

 

Verdict:

We can confirm that four serving members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, have defected from their respective parties to team up with the APC, ahead of the November 8 governorship election.
