VERIFICATION
Ahead of the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had repeatedly warned against vote-buying and voter inducement, emphasising that such acts undermine electoral integrity.
Several media outlets, including TheCable, Vanguard, and Blueprint, among others reported incidents of vote buying in parts of Anambra in the ongoing Governorship election.
In its report entitled “Vote-buying rampant in Anambra guber — but I’m optimistic, says George Moghalu,” TheCable quoted George Moghalu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, who expressed concern about widespread voter inducement despite the presence of security personnel.
“I have received reports of widespread vote-buying across parts of the state,” Moghalu told journalists in Nnewi North LGA.
While these reports substantiate claims of vote buying during the election, direct evidence linking the APC and APGA specifically, and the alleged inducements of ₦5,000 and 5kg of rice, remains unavailable.
CONCLUSION
The findings are partially accurate. Evidence shows that vote buying and voter inducement occurred during the Anambra governorship election.
It is accurate that APGA has been implicated in multiple reports, while APC was also mentioned.
