Claim: A malicious Facebook post was made by Gideon Daniel Kurah on July 28, 2026, with claims that, towards the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Osun State, the Osun State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has collapsed its structure and adopted the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO)
Furthermore, the post also stated that this decision was reached at the SDP’s zonal meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State and that it has been endorsed by SDP’s national leadership.
This claim has also been shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, by Ishaq Samaila and has gathered 6k views, 17 likes and has been reshared 5 times
Also, Journalist KC shared the post on Facebook, and it gained 213 likes, 15 comments, and 17 reshares.

We also found a post on the pages of the Guardian that corroborates this rumour. However, when we checked the date, it revealed that the publication was done 7 years ago. Since the publication on the Guardian is not a recent one and does not have most of the current actors in the post, we can isolate it or remove it from the picture.
Why We Checked
First, because it is election season, a lot of misinformation and disinformation are bound to be spread around.
Second, both parties – SDP and APC – consider themselves big parties in Nigeria’s politics and wouldn’t want to succumb to the idea of losing before going to the polls
Also, there are no reputable news agencies in Nigeria carrying the news.
Verification
We checked the image used in the post to claim that SDP was aligning with APC towards the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Osun State. We found that the image was generated from a
campaign carried out at Ode-Omu by the APC guber candidate in Osun.
We also found out that the matter took root from a letter written by Remi Omidire, the factional state chairman of the SDP in Osun State, purportedly adopting the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji on behalf of SDP for the August 15, 2026, Osun governorship election. The letter dated July 27, 2026, was addressed to Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, claiming that SDP collapsed its structure to back Bola Oyebamiji.
However, since the matter of the alliance between SDP and APC came to light two days ago on social media, the national leadership of the Social Democratic Party wasted no time in debunking it as a rumour or misinformation aimed at confusing voters in the State.
Reputable news outlets in Nigeria have publications of the SDP denying the alliance.
Verdict
The post made on Facebook by Gideon Daniel Kurah, Journalist KC and on X by lshaq Samailla is untrue, fictitious and misleading.
It could be aimed at getting SDP loyal voters to vote for the APC guber candidate in the person of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
