FACTCHECK: Viral Kwankwaso/Peter Obi Poster Is Fake

Marshall Bassey11 hours ago04 mins

On April 21, 2026, a poster announcing Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Mr. Peter Obi as the President and Vice Presidential candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election emerged on social media.

Background

The post was shared by Gawuna TV Network, a Facebook page with 5.3k followers.

As of the time of this report, the post has gained 9.2k likes, 2.2k comments, and 584 shares.

The post was captioned “A united vision. A stronger Nigeria. 🇳🇬

Kwankwaso for President. Obi for Vice President.

#ADC #NewNigeria #LeadershipThatWorks”

In no time, the poster emerged on several handles.

The poster was also shared here, here, here, here, and here.

But before Nigerians celebrate this rumoured alliance, there is one question begging for an answer; is this poster real?

Let’s find out.

Verification

We begin our verification process via Facebook, since it is the platform this poster was shared.

We started by visiting the Facebook page of Rabiu Kwakwaso who was featured in the said poster as the presidential candidate.

Kwankwaso’s main page is that with 635k followers. We scrolled through the verified page to April 1.

Sadly, there was nothing related or linking the former governor and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the viral poster.

As a matter of fact, there was no post suggesting an alliance between Kwankwaso and Obi.

We also visited Peter Obi’s page where we found nothing about the poster or an agreed alliance between the two politicians.

For clarity, Peter Obi’s Facebook page is the one with 1.5m followers.

For authenticity sake, we proceeded to Google, the most visited search engine.

We combined the search query; Rabiu Kwankwaso Peter Obi for our verification.

We found nothing about the poster or Kwankwaso/Obi alliance shared by any credible platform. However, there are reports of supporters pushing for such an alliance.

We decided to visit YouTube to find out if the viral poster had been spotted in any real location, shared by any credible platform, or even a video of a Kwankwaso/Peter Obi alliance.

We combined the same search query; Rabiu Kwankwaso Peter Obi.

However, we found nothing.

Conclusion

After rigorous research and verification, we can confirm that the poster shared by Gawuna TV Network is fake.

This post was made to garner views and engagement.
