A political poster of Ramota Adetu, popularly known as Aunty Ramota, is circulating online with a claim that she is vying for the Lagos Island II Constituency on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The claim popular on social networks, mostly Facebook, was seen here, here and here and the traction is growing.
Because of her popularity as a comedian, with over 450k followers on Instagram, and the virality of the post, it became necessary to fact-check the claim.
Verification Of Aunty Ramota’s Poster
We began the verification of this claim with a reverse image verification on Google and it pulled out the first time this claim was published and the platform.
A Facebook page with the name Sheriffdeen Ojon Omo Eko posted the political poster first on May 15 and at the time of this verification, it has gained, 367 likes, 102 comments and 30 shares.
It was published with the caption: Aunty Ramona [sic] has entered the race to represent Lagos Island at the federal representative constituency 11; she stated that she will replace the incumbent Hon. Kayode Akiolu.
Other publishers lifted this flyer and posted it on their pages.
One of them, a Facebook page, Yoruba Nollywood, has 1.1k likes, 210 comments and 50 shares.
Interesting Findings
Wrong Spelling Of Name
Many people in the comment appear to believe the poster, with may requesting she should contest under Ikorodu constituency.
However, a critical look at the poster reveals that the comedian’s name was wrongly spelt. Instead of Adetu, her surname was spelt as ADEYI.
This is a red flag that triggered further investigation. As a result, we decided to check Aunty Ramota’s Instagram handle.
Claim Debunked By Ramota
On her Instagram page, Aunty Ramota debunked the claim calling it FAKE.

She wrote: “Believe at your own risk”.
Conclusion: False
From our findings the claim that Aunty Ramota is vying for a seat in the House of Representative on the platform of the APC is false and it was apparently posted to gain traction in form of comments, likes and shares.
She has dismissed this claim as fake and asked the public not to believe it.
