FACT-CHECK: False! INEC Did Not Substitute Names Of POs And APOs

Kayode Shopekan1 hour ago03 mins

A claim surfaced on Facebook that names of polling unit officials and assistant polling unit officials trained and deployed for the Osun State gubernatorial elections have been changed.

Oni Gbenga Lawrence made this post on his Facebook page on Friday August 14, 2026.

The Facebook post had gathered 41 comments 22 reshares and 81 likes

The post suggests that the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State is swapping shortlisted and trained ad-hoc staff in Egbedore, Atakumosa East and West LGs etc, for names of people that cannot be verified and who have not been trained in preparation for this election.

Basically, the chairman of the media and publicity committee for the Imole Campaign Council, Bamidele Salam made this claim that is now viral on August 14th 2026.

The post was found here and here.

VERIFICATION

During elections, social media is often flooded with claims and counterclaims about electoral integrity, and Osun State is no exception.

Therefore, we conducted a verification. We searched the Internet for any information that remotely connected with this claim from a credible source other than the Facebook post, but we found none.

We checked the official INEC website and found no information that supports the claim that INEC swapped ad-hoc officials for the Osun State gubernatorial elections in the mentioned areas.

Also, because the Osun State gubernatorial elections concern all the parties listed on the ballot box, we should have seen by now posts on social media and publication on other credible media outlets alerting voters to the anomaly happening hours before the commencement  of the governorship election.

VERDICT – False

The post is misleading and it is aimed at creating tension and confusion before the gubernatorial elections.

It is therefore advised that the post be marked as false and it should be pulled down
