Fact Check: No, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe Did Not Urge Igbos to “Arm Themselves”

A post circulating on Facebook, shared by a user known as Celebrity Blogger, claims that Nigerian senator Enyinnaya Abaribe allegedly aksed Igbo people across Nigeria to “arm yourselves with courage… because what is coming may be more dangerous than what we saw during the Biafra War.”

As at the time of verification, the post had 15 likes, 5 comments, and 25 reshares.
The user also attached an image of a man holding a gun alongside a photo of Senator Abaribe, giving the post a misleading impression of credibility and urgency.

Who Is Enyinnaya Abaribe?

Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe is a Nigerian politician representing the Abia South Senatorial District. He has been a member of the Senate since 2007.

The viral post alleges that Abaribe issued a warning, urging Igbos to stay vigilant, prepare for danger and defend themselves.
