Multiple videos circulating on social media claim that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are distributing food items and cash to residents of Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, while urging them to vote for the party’s candidate, Asiwaju Bola Munirudeen Oyebamiji (AMBO).
One of the videos was shared on X by Instablog9ja, while other videos circulating online show individuals identified in the posts as APC supporters distributing items, including salt, rice and cash, to residents.
Why We Checked
With the Osun State governorship election approaching, videos alleging voter inducement and other forms of electoral malpractice have circulated widely online.
Because manipulated, AI-generated and deepfake videos can also be used to spread misinformation, CEMESO examined the videos to determine whether they were authentic and whether there was evidence that they had been generated using artificial intelligence or manipulated using deepfake technology.
Verification
CEMESO analysed the videos using Hive, an AI and deepfake detection tool.
The analysis of the video shared by Instablog9ja showed no evidence that the speech in the video was AI-generated, recording a 0 per cent likelihood of AI-generated speech. The tool also returned a 0 per cent deepfake detection score.
For the overall video, Hive recorded a 3.2 per cent likelihood that the content was AI-generated. This low score does not provide evidence that the video was created using AI.
The results therefore indicate that the video is not AI-generated and shows no indication of being a deepfake
The videos show people distributing salt, rice and cash to residents. In the video shared on X, the distributors are heard encouraging residents to support and vote for Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, the APC candidate in the August 15 governorship election.
Taken together, the available video evidence supports the claim that individuals presented as APC supporters were distributing items and money while soliciting support for the APC candidate ahead of the election.
Verdict
TRUE.
The videos examined are not AI-generated or deepfakes, according to Hive’s analysis.
Also, the footage shows the distribution of food items and cash, alongside appeals for residents to vote for the APC candidate, Asiwaju Bola Munirudeen Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
