On Monday, December 1, 2025, a post claiming that the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti said he was sent by President Bola Tinubu to visit Nnamdi Kanu with a ₦500 billion offer emerged on social media.
We spotted this claim shared by bloggers via TikTok and other social media platforms, and we decided to verify the authenticity of the report.
The Claim
The post, shared on TikTok by Worldstar0tv, a user with 2,541 followers read: “Breaking News: “I was personally sent by Tinubu to visit Nnamdi Kanu, and on the table was an offer of 500 billion naira and a lifetime oil well,” Alex Otti revealed.
“He looked at me and said, ‘Otti, of what good is life without the Igbo people being free like normal people?” Otti added in his shocking disclosure.”
Attached to this caption was a picture collage of Alex Otti and Nnamdi Kanu.
As of the time of this fact-check, the post had garnered 250 likes, 26 comments, and 14 shares.

This post was also published on Facebook by Celebrity Blogger, a Facebook blog with 3.7k followers.
Celebrity Blogger shared this claim using the exact same caption.
A slide image of Alex Otti and Nnamdi Kanu was used.
As of now, the post has 22 likes, 17 comments, and 59 shares.

This post was also shared on Facebook by Nwankwo Alex Izuchukwu, a Facebook page with 5.2k followers.
However, Nwankwo attributed the statement to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The post reads: “Breaking News ‼️
“Wike Breaks National Silence: Nnamdi Kanu Rejected ₦500bn Cash Offer and Port Harcourt Oil Blocks, Looked Tinubu in the Eyes and Declared ‘It Is Biafra or Death — I Cannot Be Bought’”
According to Wike, he personally took President Tinubu to meet Nnamdi Kanu during one of the behind-closed-doors negotiations. He claimed Kanu was offered ₦500 billion and a major stake in Port Harcourt oil assets—an offer designed to secure peace and end the standoff.
But Kanu, according to Wike, rejected everything.
“They placed money, power, and oil on the table. He pushed it aside. He told them clearly: ‘I want Biafra… or nothing. If it costs me my life, so be it.’” — Wike stated.
Wike added that no amount of pressure or negotiation changed Kanu’s stance.
“You can’t intimidate him, you can’t buy him. That man is ready to die for what he believes. That’s why he is still where he is,” Wike concluded

Now, let’s visit Google to verify if this statement was published by the state government or any reputable media outlet.
On Google, we combined the keywords; ‘alex otti nnamdi kanu 500 billion’, for our search query. We found that no reputable media source published this statement. Not from Wike, not from Otti.

Now, let’s visit these politicians’ social media handles.
First, we visited Nyesom Wike’s FB page. We scrolled past November 5 and we found no statement of such.

We visited the FCT Minister’s X handle and we were greeted with the same fate.
Afterwards, we decided to visit Alex Otti’s handles and see what pops up.
First, we visited his Facebook page and scrolled down to November 26, the statement was nowhere to be found.

We also visited YouTube to see if any statement of such was reported via video.
We found none.
During our investigation however, we found that the
Abia State Governor alongside the Governor of Sokoto State paid a visit to the IPOB leader in the Sokoto prison.

Conclusion
After deep investigation, we can affirm that while reports of Alex Otti’s visit to the prison are verified, the claim of a 500 billion naira offer is false.
The post was clearly shared to spark confusion and controversy which may in-turn translate to views and engagement.
